One of my absolute favorite places to photograph during this season is the iconic Chicago Riverwalk. It’s the perfect blend of urban energy and romantic backdrops, making it an ideal location for your engagement session in downtown Chicago.
What to Expect During Your Session
Most summer engagement sessions in Chicago is about 1-1.5 long. For the Riverwalk, I love beginning near Michigan Avenue and slowly making our way west, stopping at the most scenic spots along the way.
Depending on your vibe, we can focus on:
-Playful and candid shots walking hand-in-hand along the water
-Romantic portraits with the skyline or bridge architecture behind you
-Natural, relaxed close-ups surrounded by the greenery and architectural textures of the Riverwalk
We’ll also plan ahead for outfit changes if you’d like to mix up your looks—something casual and fun to start, then a more dressed-up style as the city lights come to life.
Tips for a Great Riverwalk Engagement Shoot
1.Weekday sessions work best. The Riverwalk is popular, and weekdays (especially Monday–Wednesday) offer more breathing room and privacy.
2.Dress for comfort—but don’t be afraid to elevate your style. Flowy dresses, soft colors, and textured fabrics photograph beautifully in this setting.
3.Bring comfy shoes for walking. We’ll move around a bit, so it’s smart to bring flats or sneakers and change into heels if needed.
4.Consider a post-session date night! You’ll already be dressed up, so it’s the perfect excuse to enjoy a dinner nearby and celebrate.
